Oh baby. My boy Frank set up this jam for the band he manages, City Lark.
Joining Caddywhompus and the aforementioned will be the infamous High in One Eye and a split set by Tyler Scurlock (aka Sharskteeth) and Ross Farbe (aka Native America).
It’s last minute and crazy, but it’s for sure gonna be a Jurassic Party.
YUM!

It was a warm summer night in Houston when while packing up my car after a show my girlfriend at the time pulled me aside and said, “Hey Chris, isn’t that that guy from those videos??”.
My mind searched for who she was talking about until I turned around and saw Him.
He was a little over six feet tall and built wider and stronger than I ever could have imagined.
He was rolling with his running buddy Str8 Barz and they looked fly as fuck.
I quickly ran over with my girl and my camera and documented history.
I told him what an inspiration he’s been for me and how dope it is that he holds it down so hard on these isosceles streetz. Riff Raff is a true hero.

i wanna grow up to be just like him.

Aight so sometimes I play in this fun little band Sun Hotel. This coming week (SPRING BREAKKK!!! XOXOX ROFL LOL!) we’re going on tour all along the dirty dirty thirdy thirdy coast. As of right now, I have no idea if I’ll be up on stage gathering girlies like the rest of the bros or if i’ll be hustlin’ merch and koozies and phone numbers for the jamsters themselves. Either way, it’ll be going down from March 25th till April 5th. I’m most excited about kickin it at Tyler “Back dat ass up” Scurlock‘s crib and seeing what it’s like to eat nothin but marshmallows all day. I’m bringing lots of drugs with me and hiding them in everyone else’s backpacks. You know, just to fuck with them. I’m also bringing extra fireworks.
Here’s the facebook event for the “Alex Hertz’s Bachelor Party Sassy Pants” Tour. Don’t miss these shows or we’ll kill you stone cold dead-ass.
Kisses,
Chrisses

So I recently got my hands two releases by Louisianian-turned-Brookylnite Julianna Barwick, and they have me hypnotized. The first thing I heard by her was her first official release, “Sanguine“. It’s a short album of all vocal loop-based songs. According to her website, “Sanguine serves as an intimate group of melodies displayed through the minimal tools of a 4 track, a loop pedal, and a beautiful voice”. It also mentions that many of her songs are improvised during the recording process and many were written “on the fly”. Maybe this is why her music attracts me so much, given I’ve been implementing a similar recording and songwriting method as of late. Today, I got a copy of her most recent record, “Florine” and I was reminded again of my appreciation of this musician and of her music’s existence.
Check out the song “Unt 3″ to get a feel for her music (this is from her first album, Sanguine).

Here’s a recording of her playing live at KSCR Radio on November 18, 2009.

There’s something special about these loops that makes them stand out and take me over despite their wallpaper attire.

Oh goody! This Wednesday, I’ll be playing a show at The Circle Bar with homies Native America (Ross Farbe) and The Honeysuckles. I’ll be droppin some cassettes on yo ass if you come out. It’s the album “Salivary Stones” that I’m talking about.
It’s been getting some sweet write ups on some blogs and shizz:
“disturbingly beautiful” – The Noise Is
“Much of it comes across as half-baked” – I Heart Noise
” Fuzzy, grinding textures and some sweet, hypnotic drones” – An Uncontrollable Urge
Come out and get krunk with us!

Native America is the new project of a good friend of mine, Ross Farbe. As of right now, we has not organized a live lineup, but he’s writing and recording songs on his own and will be performing with me and The Honeysuckles next wednesday. Ross Farbe played guitar, mandolin and sang in the now dormant (sad face) Mojo Method before pursuing this project.
Native America has one song recorded and released and it’s called, “Hey Day”. It’s a wonderfully composed experimental folk tune with an infectious melody, unique song progression, and an interesting bedroom-recording vibe that feels like home, and all the while sounding fresh and new. This single is a very exciting thing to hear, making me even more excited for what’s to come from this extremely talented and soulful (mostly meaning this boy gotta lotta heart, but also it’s got that sound sometimes too) songwriter.
Ross Farbe will be performing this coming Wednesday at the Circle Bar with me (I’ll be releasing my ‘Salivary Stones‘ cassette) and The Honeysuckles.

Hey everybody,
Just writing to let you know that my latest album “Salivary Stones” is now up on Bandcamp for whatever price you want to pay. This is the album that I released in cassette on Jan 16th and now it’s gone digital like so many of our lives. Anyway, I think all of my cassettes have been sold (or are about to be sent off to a certain amount people asking for one), so pick up your own copy online for (potentially) free! This is the first release on a new label that Sean Hart and I are starting called Chinquapin Records. Check us out soon (website is still under construction).
Thanks for all the support.
